NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes is a growing, commercial-stage company focused on advancing patient care by providing therapeutic radioisotopes and novel radiopharmaceuticals to detect and treat cancer, and customized radiopharmaceutical development services.

 

Position

The Process Engineering Intern assists and supports research and development initiatives, implementation of continuous improvement projects, implementation of production equipment, and business critical projects, including production process improvements.  The specific duties vary based on function.  The intern will serve as a key team member performing meaningful and important work contributing to the company’s mission and the specific function’s goals. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Through both analytical and hands-on work, support developing engineering solutions with a high level of detail in response to development, hardware, manufacturing, and operational needs.
  • Support the development of requirements and specifications.
  • Participate in the design of process and equipment to meet specifications.
  • Comprehensively document designs, trials, and other work, update drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOM’s) through Change Orders.
  • Present drawings and project progress to peers and management.
  • Participate in process hazard/risk management reviews and modify equipment/designs as necessary to ensure safe operation and appropriate specifications are captured.
  • Execute testing to ensure product/equipment/processes meet all requirements and specifications.
  • Work with and learn from others, including interns, team members, technical experts, and mentors.
  • Work with a variety of vendors to provide parts and services.
  • Support development of business processes and operational excellence initiatives.

NorthStar’s Internship program begins May 27 and ends late August. To fully benefit from the program, all planned time off needs to be pre-approved.

 

This position is based at our Headquarters in Beloit, WI, and may require periodic travel to our Madison, WI, locations. 

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.

 

Previous experience/internships in pharmaceutical, life sciences, medical device, or other regulatory industry preferred.

Working Conditions

Physical demands may include, but not be limited to, specific vision abilities including near vision/acuity and visual color discrimination.

 

The work environment may include exposure to a heated/air-conditioned indoor office / manufacturing / cleanroom setting with adequate ventilation and lighting and outdoor environments with varying temperatures.  The noise level may vary from quiet to loud. Employees must be willing and able to wear various types of PPE, including, but not limited to, respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing, as required by the job to ensure safety in potentially hazardous conditions.  Specific cleanroom requirements include employees needing to inform leadership about any health condition that may have an adverse effect on products, as well as compliance with gowning protocols.  This means all jewelry, including physically attached items, must not interfere with the effectiveness of personal protective equipment.  In addition, all cosmetics, fragranced products (perfumes, aftershave, etc.), and nail products are prohibited, including clear nail polish, artificial nails, and nail extenders. 

 

The company is a radiopharmaceutical manufacturer and radiation may be present in manufacturing and laboratory areas. Employees may be required to be monitored using company provided dosimetry and bioassay testing.

Location

NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes is headquartered in Beloit, Wis. This location is our primary manufacturing site and accommodates all of our corporate functions. Beloit has small city charm, with a lively and renovated downtown, yet is also close to cities such as Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Rockford.

 

Beloit is a part of the larger South Central Wisconsin/Northern Illinois region, which offers residents and visitors alike a unique blend of urban opportunities and rural, natural beauty.
